Airports Fiji Limited (AFL) has set aside close to $80 million to upgrade Nadi International Airport.
The modernization project is scheduled to commence in August and is expected to take up to 13 months to complete.
AFL Chairman Faiz Khan says they have received expressions of interests from both local and overseas companies for the upgrade.
“When you have a project of this size it doesn’t mean that the entire job or entire construction job necessarily has to go to one applicant it could go to many companies for many reasons. The project management firm may think that by giving small tender packages it may ensure that you are able to get the project down in a faster time so that’s still to be seen.”
Initial plans were to start the upgrading process in September last year and have it completed by April this year.
Khan says they didn’t want to rush due to the magnitude of the project.
Once complete, Nadi Airport will be on par with international airports around the world.
